Rim glaze pottery has become our signature look over the years. We started doing it in 1990, ahead of the other custom stein potters. Today we are told we have some of the most stunning combinations body/rim glazes in the custom mug business. Sometimes, though, two colors clash, like orange and green like in the case of Flordia A & M University.
Last month, Florida A & M University asked for an orange and green color combo on a custom stein. Those two glazes, when applied our traditional way, would mix and turn out awful. So we went to Plan B. Under a clear body glaze that reveals the soft natural cream color of the clay, we used bright orange slip on just the rim and foot of the stein, then vibrant green on their custom logo medallions.
We fired decals onto the back side with the same color green for a unique personalization you get only with Grey Fox Pottery custom mugs. This is, we discovered, a great new way to use clashing colors on a mug that ends up looking beautiful! We tried something we’d never done before and turns out, it made everyone happy.
